قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): يوم غدير خم أفضل أعياد أمتي، وهو اليوم الذي أمرني الله تعالى ذكره فيه بنصب أخي علي بن أبي طالب علما لامتي يهتدون به من بعدي، وهو اليوم الذي أكمل الله فيه الدين، وأتم على أمتي فيه النعمة، ورضي لهم الاسلام دينا.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said:
"The Day of Ghadir Khumm is the greatest of the festivals of my nation. It is the day on which Allah, exalted is His remembrance, commanded me to appoint my brother, Ali ibn Abi Talib, as a guide for my nation, through whom they will be rightly guided after me. It is the day on which Allah perfected the religion, completed His blessing upon my nation, and was pleased with Islam as their religion."

عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري، عن هارون بن مسلم، عن مسعدة بن صدقة، عن جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه (عليهما السلام): إن إبليس عدو الله رن أربع رنات: يوم لعن ويوم اهبط إلى الأرض ويوم بعث النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ويوم الغدير
Imam Mohammad ibn Ali al-Baqir(as) says:
(peace be upon them), said:
"Indeed, Iblīs, the enemy of Allah, screamed four times:
The day he was cursed,
The day he was cast down to the earth,
The day the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) was sent,
And the day of Ghadīr."

عن أبي جعفر (عليه السلام) قال: بني الاسلام على خمس: على الصلاة والزكاة والصوم والحج والولاية ولم يناد بشئ كما نودي بالولاية، فأخذ الناس بأربع وتركوا هذه - يعني الولاية
Imam Muhammad al-Bāqir(as) says:
"Islam is built upon five pillars:
Prayer, almsgiving (zakāt), fasting, pilgrimage (ḥajj), and wilāyah (divinely-appointed leadership).
Nothing was called upon (emphasized) as strongly as wilāyah, yet the people accepted the four and abandoned this one — meaning wilāyah."

سهل بن زياد، عن عبد الرحمن بن سالم، عن أبيه قال: سألت أبا عبد الله (عليه السلام) هل للمسلمين عيد غير يوم الجمعة والأضحى والفطر؟ قال: نعم أعظمها حرمة قلت، وأي عيد هو جعلت فداك؟ قال: اليوم الذي نصب فيه رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام وقال: من كنت مولاه فعلي مولاه، قلت: وأي يوم هو؟ قال: وما تصنع باليوم إن السنة تدور ولكنه يوم ثمانية عشر من ذي الحجة، فقلت: وما ينبغي لنا أن نفعل في ذلك اليوم؟ قال: تذكرون الله عز ذكره فيه بالصيام والعبادة والذكر لمحمد وآل محمد فإن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) أوصى أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام) أن يتخذ ذلك اليوم عيدا وكذلك كانت الأنبياء (عليهم السلام) تفعل كانوا يوصون أوصيائهم بذلك فيتخذونه عيدا.
Sahl ibn Ziyād, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sālim, from his father, who said:
I asked Abū ʿAbd Allāh (peace be upon him) [i.e., Imam Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq]:
“Do the Muslims have any festival (ʿīd) other than Friday, ʿĪd al-Aḍḥā, and ʿĪd al-Fiṭr?”
He said:
“Yes, and it is the greatest of them in sanctity.”
I asked: “Which festival is it, may I be your ransom?”
He said:
“It is the day when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) appointed the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) and said: ‘Whoever I am master of, then ʿAlī is his master.’”
I asked: “Which day is it?”
He replied:
“What concern is the exact day to you? The year revolves (and the days shift), but it is the 18th of Dhū al-Ḥijjah.”
So I asked: “What should we do on that day?”
He said:
“You should remember Allah, glorified is His remembrance, through fasting, worship, and mentioning Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad (peace be upon them). For the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) advised the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) to take that day as a festival (ʿīd), and so did the prophets (peace be upon them); they used to instruct their successors to do the same and take it as a festival.”

Imam Baqir(as)
فقال الرضا عليه السلام حدثني أبي عن أبيه (2) قال: إن يوم الغدير في السماء أشهر منه في الأرض إن لله في الفردوس الاعلى قصرا لبنة من فضة ولبنة من ذهب ثم ذكر وصف ذلك القصر وما يجتمع فيه يوم الغدير من الملائكة وما ينالون من كرامة ذلك اليوم، ثم قال: يا ابن أبي نصر أينما كنت فاحضر يوم الغدير عند أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام فإن الله يغفر لكل مؤمن ومؤمنة ومسلم ومسلمة ذنوب ستين سنة، ويعتق من النار ضعف ما أعتق في شهر رمضان، وفي ليلة القدر وليلة الفطر، والدرهم فيه بألف درهم لاخوانك العارفين، فأفضل على إخوانك في هذا اليوم وسر فيه كل مؤمن ومؤمنة، ثم قال: يا أهل الكوفة لقد أعطيتم خيرا كثيرا، وإنكم لممن امتحن الله قلبه للايمان مستقلون مقهورون ممتحنون يصب البلاء عليكم صبا، ثم يكشفه كاشف الكرب العظيم، والله لو عرف الناس فضل هذا اليوم بحقيقته لصافحتهم الملائكة في كل يوم عشر مرات، ولولا أني أكره التطويل لذكرت من فضل هذا اليوم وما أعطى الله (3) من عرفه ما لا يحصى بعدد.
Imam al-Riḍā (a) said:
“My father narrated to me from his father [i.e., Imam al-Kāẓim from Imam al-Ṣādiq] that: ‘The Day of Ghadīr is more well-known in the heavens than it is on the earth.’
Indeed, Allah has a palace in the highest part of Paradise (al-Firdaws al-Aʿlā), built of bricks of silver and gold...” — then the Imam described that palace and what is gathered there on the Day of Ghadīr from among the angels, and the great honor they receive on that day.
Then he said:
“O Ibn Abī Naṣr! Wherever you are, be present near the Commander of the Faithful (ʿAlī, peace be upon him) on the Day of Ghadīr. For on that day, Allah forgives every believing man and woman, and every Muslim man and woman, their sins of sixty years. He frees from the Fire twice the number of those He frees in the month of Ramaḍān, and on the nights of Qadr and Eid al-Fiṭr. A single dirham (spent) for your fellow faithful brothers (who recognize this day) is equal to a thousand dirhams. So be generous to your brothers on this day, and bring joy to every believing man and woman.”
Then he said:
“O people of Kūfa! You have been given great goodness. Truly, you are among those whose hearts Allah has tested for faith. You are belittled, oppressed, and tried — and tribulation is poured upon you like rain — but the One who removes great distress will surely relieve you.
By Allah, if people truly knew the merit of this day, the angels would shake their hands ten times a day! And were it not that I dislike prolonging the speech, I would have told you of the virtues of this day and what Allah gives to those who recognize it — blessings too numerous to count.”
