The Reason Lady Fāṭimah (peace be upon her) Was Named Fāṭimah

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said:

“Indeed, my daughter was named Fāṭimah because Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has weaned(kept away) her and those who love her from the Fire (of Hell).”

The Nine Divine Names of Lady Fāṭimah (peace be upon her) and the Secret Behind Her Name

From a chain of narration, Yūnus ibn Ẓabiyān narrates that Imām al-Ṣādiq (peace be upon him) said:

Lady Fāṭimah (peace be upon her) has nine names with Allah, the Mighty and Majestic:
Fāṭimah, the Truthful (al-Ṣiddīqah), the Blessed (al-Mubārakah), the Pure (al-Ṭāhirah), the Virtuous (al-Zakiyyah), the Content (al-Raḍiyyah), the Pleasing (al-Marḍiyyah), the One Spoken To by Angels (al-Muḥaddathah), and the Radiant (al-Zahrā’).

Then he said:
“Do you know why she was named Fāṭimah?”
Yūnus said: “Inform me, my master.”
Imam replied: “Because she was protected and severed (fuṭimat) from all evil.”

Then he continued:
“If the Commander of the Faithful (ʿAlī, peace be upon him) had not married her, there would have been no equal for her on the face of the earth until the Day of Resurrection — not even Adam, nor anyone after him."
