Furat said: Muhammad ibn al-Qasim ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, saying: al-Husayn (al-Shawa’) narrated to us, saying: Muhammad—meaning Ibn ‘Abdullah al-Hanzali—narrated to us, saying: Wakee‘ narrated to us, saying: Sulayman al-A‘mash narrated to us: "I entered upon Abu ‘Abdullah Ja‘far ibn Muhammad(imambaqir) (peace be upon them both) and said to him: 'May I be your ransom! The people call us Rafidha (Rejectors). What is Rafidha?' He (peace be upon him) replied: 'By Allah, they did not name you that; rather, Allah named you with it in the Torah and the Gospel, through the tongues of Musa and ‘Isa (peace be upon them). This is because seventy men from the people of Pharaoh rejected Pharaoh and entered into the religion of Musa, so Allah the Exalted named them Rafidha. And He revealed to Musa to record this name for them in the Torah, so they would inherit it through the tongue of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Then Allah divided them into many groups and branches; they rejected good, but you rejected evil and remained steadfast with the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them). You followed where your Prophet went and chose whom Allah and His Messenger chose. So rejoice, and again I say rejoice, and again I say rejoice! For you are the ones shown mercy. The good deeds of your righteous are accepted, and the faults of your wrongdoers are forgiven. And whoever does not meet Allah with the same faith as you will have neither his good deeds accepted nor his sins forgiven. O Sulayman, does this make you happy?' I said: 'Increase me, may I be your ransom!' He said: 'Indeed, Allah the Almighty has angels who seek forgiveness for you until your sins fall off like leaves from a tree on a windy day. This is the meaning of Allah's words: "Those who bear the Throne and those around it glorify their Lord with praise and ask forgiveness for those who believe." They are our Shia, and by Allah, this verse is for them. O Sulayman, does this make you happy?' I said: 'Increase me, may I be your ransom!' He said: 'None are upon the religion of Ibrahim except us and our Shia, while all others are disassociated from it.'"

From al-Mahasin, from Ibn Yazid, from Safwan, from Zayd al-Shahham, from Abu al-Jarud, who said: "May Allah make his ears deaf as He has made his eyes blind if he did not hear Abu Ja'far (Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him) while a man was saying: 'So-and-so has named us with a name.' He (Imam al-Baqir) asked: 'And what is that name?' The man replied: 'He has called us *Rafidha* (Rejectors).' Then Abu Ja'far (peace be upon him) placed his hand on his chest and said: 'I am from the Rafidha, and they are from me.' He repeated this three times."
