Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Attar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yahya ibn Imran al-Ash‘ari, who said: Musa ibn Umar narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Sabah al-Muzani, from Ibrahim ibn Shu‘ayb al-Mithami, who said: I heard Abu Abdullah al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) say: When al-Husayn ibn Ali (peace be upon them) was born, Allah, the Almighty, commanded Jibra’il to descend with a thousand angels to congratulate the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) on behalf of Allah and himself. As Jibra’il descended, he passed by an island in the sea where there was an angel called Fitrus. He was among the carriers of the Throne, but Allah had sent him on a mission, and he was slow in fulfilling it. As a result, his wing was broken, and he was cast onto that island. He worshipped Allah there for seven hundred years until al-Husayn ibn Ali (peace be upon them) was born. Fitrus asked Jibra’il, “O Jibra’il, where are you headed?” Jibra’il replied, “Allah, the Almighty, has bestowed a blessing upon Muhammad, so I have been sent to congratulate him on behalf of Allah and myself.” Fitrus then said, “O Jibra’il, take me with you. Perhaps Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) will supplicate for me.” Jibra’il carried him along. When Jibra’il entered upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), he conveyed the congratulations from Allah and himself and informed him about the condition of Fitrus. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said, “Tell him to touch this newborn and then return to his place.” So, Fitrus touched al-Husayn ibn Ali (peace be upon them) and was restored. He then ascended, saying, “O Messenger of Allah, indeed, your nation will kill him, but as a recompense, I vow that no visitor will visit him without me delivering his message, no one will send peace upon him without me conveying their greetings, and no one will pray for him without me relaying their prayers.” Then, Fitrus ascended back to his place.
