Unshakable Loyalty: Shimr’s Failed Plot Against Hazrat Abbas (a.s).

Introduction:

Karbala was not only a test of swords and sacrifice but a battleground of character, loyalty, and spiritual resilience. Amidst the blazing sands and looming threat of death, the enemies of Imam Hussain (a.s) tried to manipulate and divide the loyal group that stood beside him. The plot of shimr ibn dhil jawshan to sever the bond between the Imam and His brother, Hazrat Abbas (a.s), stands as a dark example of psychological warfare — and as a beacon of how unshakable faith can defeat cunning betrayal.

The Plot Unveiled:

Shimr, knowing the deep bond that Hazrat Abbas (a.s) and His brothers had with Imam Hussain (a.s), attempted to exploit their family ties. He came forth with a deceitful offer of immunity, calling out, “Where are the sons of my sister?” referring to Abbas (a.s), Abdullah, Uthman, and Ja’far — sons of Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s) and Umm al-Banin. Shimr announced that the brothers had been granted a guarantee of safety, a pardon that would save their lives if they abandoned Imam Hussain (a.s) and joined the army of Yazid.

The Reaction of Hazrat Abbas (a.s):

With burning indignation, Hazrat Abbas (a.s) and his brothers rejected the offer with a force that shook the plains of Karbala. They responded, “May Allah curse you, and curse your immunity. How dare you offer us immunity while there is no immunity for the son of the daughter of Allah’s Messenger (s)?” In that moment, Abbas (a.s) refused the tempting offer, placing loyalty to Allah, the Prophet, and Imam Hussain (a.s) above all worldly promises.

A Timeless Example of Loyalty:

This incident shines through history as a timeless example of loyalty, honor, and spiritual clarity. It reminds us that no worldly enticement — no matter how alluring — can justify betraying the truth. Hazrat Abbas (a.s) chose to stand firm, embracing immortality through loyalty rather than life through betrayal.

Today’s lesson:

Temptation comes in many forms.

But like Hazrat Abbas (a.s), stay loyal to your values—even if it costs you comfort. That’s where true strength lives.
