Fadail al-Imam Ali

We read in Maʿānī al-Akhbār bt Shaykh al-Saduq(ra), P59:

The Commander of the Faithful, Ali ibn Abi Talib(as) gave a sermon in Kufa after his return from Nahrawan, and he heard that Mu’awiyah was cursing and insulting him and killing his companions. In a part of the sermon, he says....

"My name in the Injeel (Gospel) is 'Eliya', and in the Tawrat (Torah) it is 'Bara’', and in the Zabur (Psalms) it is 'Ari'. Among the Indians, it is 'Kabkar', among the Romans, 'Batrisa', among the Persians, 'Jabtar', among the Turks, 'Batheer', among the Blacks (Zanj), 'Haitar', among the priests (Kahins), 'Boyi’, among the Abyssinians, 'Bathrik'. My mother named me 'Haidara'.

"أنا اسمي في الإنجيل «إليا»، وفي التوراة «بريا»، وفي الزبور «اري». وعند الهند «كابر»، وعند الروم «بطريسا»، وعند الفرس «جبير»، وعند الترك «تبير»، وعند الزنج «حيتر»، وعند الكهنة «بوسي»، وعند الحبشة «بتريك». وعند أمي «حيدرة»، وعند ظئري «ميمون»، وعند العرب «علي»، وعند الأرمن «فريق»، وعند أبي «ظهيرا»."
"My name in the Gospel is 'Eliyah,' in the Torah 'Bariya,' in the Psalms 'Ari.' Among the Hindus, it is 'Kaber,' among the Romans 'Patrisa,' among the Persians 'Jubair,' among the Turks 'Tabir,' among the Zanj 'Haitar,' among the priests 'Busi,' and among the Abyssinians 'Batrik.' My mother calls me 'Haydarah,' my wet nurse calls me 'Maimun,' the Arabs call me 'Ali,' the Armenians call me 'Fariq,' and my father calls me 'Zahir.'"

جابر بن عبد الله الانصاري، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): من فضل أحدا من أصحابي على علي فقد كفر .

From Jabir b. `Abdullah al-Ansari. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: He who prefers one of my companions over `Ali has disbelieved.
