al-Wulat wa al-Qudhat by al-Kindi, Pg. 22:
Musa b. Hasan b. Musa narrated to us. He said: Ibn Abi Burda narrated to us. He said: Nasr b. Muzahim narrated to us. And in the narration of Umar b. Said, from Fudayl b. Hudayj, from Ibrahim b. Yazid, from Alqama b. Qays, who said: I entered upon Ali with a group from al-Nakha when al-Ashtar had perished. When he saw me, he said: By God, Malik if he were a mountain, he would have been a towering mountain, and if he were a stone, he would have been solid like Malik. Let the weeping women weep, for is there anyone like Malik? By God, he did not cease longing for him and grieving over him until we thought that he was the one afflicted rather than us.
