
Kitab al-Maghazi by al-Waqidi, Vol. 2, pg. 314:
وَكَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ هَوَازِنَ عَلَى جَمَلٍ أَحْمَرَ بِيَدِهِ رَايَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ فِي رَأسِ رُمْحِ لَهُ طَوِيلِ أَمَامَ النَّاسِ، إِذَا أَدْرَكَ طَعَنَ، قَدْ أَكْثَرَ فِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ الْقَتْلَ فَيَصْمُدُ لَهُ أَبُو دُجَانَةَ فَعَرْقَبَ جَمَلَهُ، فَسَمِعَ خَرْحَرَةَ جَمَلِهِ وَاكْتَسَعَ الْجَمَل ويشدَّ عَلى وَأَبُو دُجَانَةَ عَلَيْهِ، فَيَقْطَعُ عَلَى يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى، وَيَقْطَعُ أَبُو دُجَانَةَ يَدَهُ الأخرى - وَأَقْبَلا يَضْرِبَانِهِ بِسَيْفَيْهِمَا جَمِيعًا حَتَّى تَلَمَ سَيْفَاهُمَا، فَكَفَ أَحَدُهُمَا وَأَجْهَزَ الْآخَرُ عَلَيْهِ ثُم قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا لِصَاحِبِهِ: أَمْضِ لا تُعَرِّجُ عَلَى سَلَبِهِ فَمَضَيَا يَضْرِبَانِ أَمَامَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَيَعْتَرِضُ لَهُمَا فَارِسٌ مِنْ هَوازِنَ بِيَدِهِ رَايَةٌ حَمْرَاءُ فَضَرَبَ أَحَدُهما يَدَ الْفَرَسِ وَوَقَعَ لِوَجْهِهِ، ثُمَّ ضَرَباهُ بِأسيَافِهِمَا فَمَضَيَا عَلَى سَلَبِهِ، وَيَمُر أَبُو طَلْحَة فَسَلَبَ الأَوَّلَ وَمَرْ بِالْآخَرِ فَسَلَبَهُ وَكَانَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ وَعَلَى، وَأَبُو دُجَانَةَ وَأَيْمَنُ بن عُبيدٍ يُقَاتِلُونَ بَين يَدَى رَسُول الله.
They said:
There was a man from the Hawazin on a red camel, who held a black flag at the top of a long spear of his. When he overtook anyone he pierced him. He had increased the battle with the Muslims. Abu Dujana stood up to him and hamstrung his camel. He heard the wail of the camel as it fell down. Then Ali and Abu Dujana strengthened against him, and Ali cut off his right hand while Abu Dujana cut off the other. They approached and struck him with their swords, together, until their swords were blunted. One of them desisted, while the other finished him off. Then one of them said to his companion, “Leave, and do not return for his plunder.” So they went fighting before the Prophet. Then a rider from the Hawazin carrying a red flag in his hand confronted them. One of them struck the hand of the rider and he fell to his face. Then they struck him with their swords and they left his booty.
Abu Talha was passing by, and he took the booty of the first, then, he passed again and took the booty of the last. Uthman b. Affan, Ali, Abu Dujana, Ayman b. Ubayd fought before the Messenger of God.

Kitab al-Ma'arif by Ibn Qutaybah, pg. 96:
وكان الذين ثبتوا مع رسول الله الله يوم حنين بعد هزيمة الناس علي بن أبي طالب، والعباس بن عبد المطلب، أخذ بحكمة بغلته، وأبو سفيان ابن الحارث بن عبد المطلب وابنه والفضل بن العباس بن عبد المطلب وأيمن ابن عبيد، وهو ابن أم أيمن مولاة رسول الله الله وحاضنته وقتل يومئذ، وربيعة بن الحارث بن عبد المطلب وأسامة بن زيد بن حارثة. وقال العباس ابن عبد المطلب:
نصرنا رسول الله في الحرب سبعًا ... وقد فر من فر منهم فأقشعوا
وثامننا لاقى الحمام بسيفه ... بما مسه في الله لا يتوجع
يعني أيمن بن عبيدة.
Those who remained steadfast with the Messenger of Allah on the day of Hunayn, after the people fled, were: Ali b. Abi Talib, Al-Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib, who held the reins of the Prophet’s mule, Abu Sufyan b. al-Harith b. Abd al-Muttalib and his son, Al-Fadl b. al-Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib, Ayman b. Ubayd, the son of Umm Ayman, the servant and caretaker of the Messenger of Allah; he was killed that day, Rabi‘ah b. al-Harith b. Abd al-Muttalib, and Usama b. Zayd b. Harithah.
Al-Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib said:
"We supported the Messenger of Allah in battle, seven in number,
While those who fled had scattered and gone."
"Our eighth met his fate by the sword,
Bearing what befell him for Allah’s sake, without complaint." He was referring to Ayman b. Ubayd.

Tafsir al-Qurtubi Vol 7. pg. 64:
قُلْتُ: وَلَا تَعَارُضَ فَإِنَّهُ يَحْتَمِلُ أَنْ يَكُونَ شَاهت الْوُجُوهُ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْه وَسَلَّمَ وَمِنْ قَوْلِ الْمَلَائِكَةِ مَعًا وَيدلُ عَلَى أَنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ قَاتَلَتْ يَوْم حُنيْنٍ. فَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ. وَقَتَلَ عَلِيٌّ رضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ أَرْبَعِينَ رجُلًا بِيدِهِ
I said: And there is no contradiction, for it is possible that 'Shahat al-Wujooh' (may the faces be disfigured) could be from both the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and from the words of the angels together. This indicates that the angels fought on the day of Hunayn. Allah knows best. And **Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, killed forty men with his hand on the day of Hunayn
