Mutah was prohibited by omar!
We read in Tafsir al-Tabari, Vol 6, pg. 588:
Narrated Muhammad b. al-Muthanna, who said: Muhammad b. Ja'far narrated to us, who said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from al-Hakam, who said: I asked him about this verse: "{And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess.}" up to this point: "{For the enjoyment you have had from them thereby}," Is it abrogated? He said: "No." al-Hakam said: 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "If it were not for the fact that Umar prohibited temporary marriage, no one would have committed adultery except the miserable."
