Hadith Scan
المدائنيّ قال: بينا عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه على المنبر إذ أحسّ من نفسه بريح خرجت منه، فقال: أيها الناس إني قد ميّلت بين أن أخافكم في الله وبين أن أخاف الله فيكم، فكان أن أخاف الله فيكم أحبّ إليّ، ألا وإني قد فسوت، وهأنذا أنزل لأعيد الوضوء.
Al-Mada’ini said: While Umar b. al-Khattab was on the pulpit, he sensed from himself a wind that had come out. He said: “O people, I was faced with the choice between fearing you regarding Allah and fearing Allah regarding you, and fearing Allah regarding you was more beloved to me. Indeed, I have passed wind, and here I am going down to renew my ablution.”
