Hadith Scan
دخل شريك بن الأعور على معاوية ، وكان دميماً فقال له : إنك لدميم والجميل خير من الدميم ، وإنك لشريك وما الله شريك ، وإن أباك لأعور والصحيح خير من الأعور ، فكيف سُدْتَ قومك ؛ فقال : وإنك معاوية وما معاوية إلا كلبة عوت فاستعوت الكلاب ، وإنك لابن حرب والسلم خير من الحرب ، وإنك لابن صخر والسهـل خيـر من الصخر ، وإنك لا بن أمية وما أمية إلا أمة صغرت ، فكيف صرت أمير
المؤمنين ؟ وخرج وهو يقول
أيشتمني معاوية بن حـــرب وسيفي صارم ومعي لساني وحولي من ذوي يمن ليوث ضراغمة تهش إلى الطعان
يعير بالدمامة من سفاه وربات الخدور من الغواني
ذوات الحسن والريبال جهم شتيم وجهه ماضي الجنان
Sharik bin Al-A'war entered upon Muawiyah, and he was ugly. Muawiyah said to him: "You are ugly, and the beautiful is better than the ugly. You are Sharik (partner), and God has no partner. Your father was one-eyed, and the sound (healthy) is better than the one-eyed. So how did you become the leader of your people?"
Sharik replied: "And you are Muawiyah, and Muawiyah is just a barking dog that made other dogs bark. You are the son of Harb (war), and peace is better than war. You are the son of Sakhr (rock), and the plain is better than the rock. You are the son of Umayyah, and Umayyah is just a small nation. So how did you become the Commander of the Faithful?"
He left while saying:
"Does Muawiyah bin Harb insult me while my sword is sharp and my tongue is with me, and around me are lions from Yemen who eagerly seek the fight?
He mocks my ugliness out of foolishness, and the maidens of the chambers, the beautiful women, find him repulsive,
His face is sullen and offensive, and his courage is keen
