Mu’awiya and his love for food
Sharh Nahj al-Balagha Vol 2, pg. 256:
والأشبه عندي أنه عنى معاوية، لأنه كان موصوفا بالنهم وكثرة الاكل، وكان بطينا، يقعد بطنه إذا جلس على فخذيه،
The closest interpretation in my view is that it refers to Mu'awiya, as he was described as gluttonous and ate a lot. He was corpulent, and when he sat, his stomach would rest on his thighs.
