Yazid narrated to us, Walid—meaning Ibn Abdullah bin Jami'—informed us, from Abu Al-Tufayl, who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was returning from the Battle of Tabuk, he ordered a crier to announce that the Messenger of Allah would take the mountain pass, and no one else should take it. While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was being led by Hudhayfah and followed by Ammar, a group of masked men approached on their mounts, surrounding Ammar as he was following the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Ammar began to strike the faces of their mounts. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to Hudhayfah, "Keep going, keep going," until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended safely. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had descended, he dismounted, and Ammar returned. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "O Ammar, did you recognize the people?" Ammar replied, "I recognized most of the mounts, but the people were masked." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you know what they intended?" Ammar said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet ﷺ said, "They intended to scare the Messenger of Allah and throw him down."Ammar then asked one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "By Allah, how many people do you know were involved in the incident at the mountain pass?" The man said, "Fourteen." Ammar replied, "If you were among them, then they were fifteen in total, but the Prophet ﷺ excused three of them who said, 'By Allah, we did not hear the crier of the Messenger of Allah, and we did not know what the others intended.'" Ammar then said, "I bear witness that the remaining twelve are at war with Allah and His Messenger in this life and on the Day when witnesses will stand."Walid added: Abu Al-Tufayl mentioned that during that battle, it was reported to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that there was a shortage of water. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then ordered a crier to announce, "

Let no one approach the water before the Messenger of Allah." When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached the water, he found that a group had already arrived before him, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed them on that day.
