Description:
From Khalid ibn Yazid, from Muammar al-Makki, from Ishaq ibn Abdillah ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn (peace be upon him), from al-Hasan ibn Zayd, from his father Zayd ibn al-Hasan, from his grandfather (peace be upon him), who said:
I heard Ammar ibn Yasir say:
A beggar approached Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) while he was bowing (in ruku) in a voluntary prayer, and he removed his ring and gave it to the beggar.
Then the beggar went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) and informed him of what had happened.
Then Allah revealed this verse to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family):
“Your only guardian (wali) is Allah, His Messenger, and those who believe — those who establish prayer and give zakat while they are bowing.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) recited the verse to us, then said:
“Whoever I am his master (mawla), Ali is his master. O Allah, befriend whoever befriends him, and be an enemy to whoever opposes him.
